I was doing an analysis on pay rates in several industries and I'm stuck with this one. As far as I was able to find, the rate hasn't gone up by much in the past decades, I'm looking at numbers from 2000 till today. Anyone have an idea why?

What specific roles are you looking at? Pay trends can vary quite a bit between different jobs in the oil and gas sector.

Some industries just have slower wage growth because of factors like automation, outsourcing, or even oversupply of workers. If the job's considered replaceable or low skilled, companies might not feel pressured to bump pay much. Also, if the industry hasn't seen big profitability changes or strong unions pushing for raises, wages tend to stagnate.

A friend of mine spent years working in warehouses without ever seeing a raise larger than a dollar. Then robots took over, and he was let go. He often used to say, 'You can't compete with a machine that never sleeps.'
