From some rig oil to finding a land to build something real

I've been working in Odessa, Texas, and have saw some crazy stuff, but nothing hit me harder than losing a high school best friend and a crew member in an accident right in front of me.
After that, I supported his pregnant wife and let her stay at my place just until she got back on her feet ( nothing romantic, just to be there). I helped with groceries and took her to the dr. Yeah, no one in her family could take her in.

Now, she's got a settlement from the company, and she's pushing me to start my own thing as a landman.

I've been going around, talking to owners of old, dried up leases. No one's gonna drill on a tiny 80 acre plot, but if I can stitch 50 of them together, it's a whole different story. I know that oil came from somewhere, and I've got a gut feeling I can find the source if I go 7,000 feet horizontal.
I've been offering owners a 30% royalty out of the gate, which surprises them since they've been asking for 20%. I'm not some fancy landman in a suit, I'm a working man in boots. My word is all I have, and I won't ruin it for money.
