No experience considering NM rigs

Considering a move to Hobbs or Carlsbad since I've heard the Permian has openings. My cousin's ex got started with no certs and did OK for a year. Is it better to start with a drilling crew or in support services? How far can you go without CDL or H2S training?

No sweat if you're short on certs, some support gigs are cool with that. But if you're eyeing those well-paid drilling jobs, H2S and maybe a CDL will be your tickets in. Even starting from the ground up, you can build yourself a rock-solid career

Starting on a drilling crew can be tough but gives great experience, while support services might be easier to get into at first. Without a CDL or H2S training, your options are pretty limited since those are often required for most jobs. It's worth looking into getting those certs early, they'll open a lot more doors and better pay. Have you checked out any local training programs yet?

I haven't looked into training programs yet but I'm starting to think that getting H2S and CDL sorted before heading out might be the smarter move. Do most people get these done locally before applying or are there companies out there that help you get certified once you're hired? If I start in support, how long does it usually take to move over to a drilling crew if I'm reliable and show up ready to work?

If you're just looking to get a foot in the door, Hobbs/Carlsbad is about as wide open as it gets right now
