Getting into oil & gas as a civil engineer

I'm a civil engineer with zero oil & gas background, and I've been wondering if short professional courses (like piping design, HSE certs, etc.) can actually boost my chances of getting hired in this industry. I'm not aiming for technical design right away but I want to get closer at least. I'm a little curious if anyone's taken this route and seen results.

Short courses like piping design, HSE, or pipeline engineering can absolutely help you break into oil & gas especially if you're aiming for support or project roles first. Are you leaning more toward field work or office-based roles?

Short courses rarely make a real difference without solid oil & gas experience, many employers value hands-on expertise over certifications. It's often better to focus on networking and entry roles than chasing quick certifications
